‘The Vineyard Kitchen’ to open at The Sharpham Estate.

The Sharpham Estate is excited to announce that ‘The Vineyard Kitchen’ will be opening its doors on Good Friday (14th April) in time for the Easter weekend.

This thousand year estate, situated on the picturesque banks of the River Dart, near Totnes in South Devon is already renowned for producing world class wines and unpasteurised cheeses, will now also offer al fresco dining throughout the summer months from June to September.

Head Chef Chris Sherville has come from an extensive cooking background; he ran a restaurant in Bath and the pop-up restaurants at the Port Eliot Festival at St Germans in Cornwall. More recently, he has been working with Michelin star chef John Burton Race as Two Grumpy Chefs, providing bespoke private catering. Chris grew up in both Hong Kong and Malaysia and has travelled far and wide – something he wants to incorporate into his cooking.

Chris has created a menu packed with local produce which will be served with an exotic twist, inspired by flavours from his travels. It goes without saying, he will also have free reign when using the award-winning wine and cheese produced at The Sharpham Estate as well. The menu will proudly showcase the South West’s stunning local produce all within the vicinity of Sharpham and will be a relaxed affair.

Chris says, “. “It’s very simple to me, I only cook what I enjoy cooking and I put my heart and soul into it. These are dishes I love eating and I hope other people will enjoy eating them too.

“I like a bit of theatre, so we have a wood-fired oven and people will see directly into the flames and watch what’s going on. It’s really important to have that relationship with the customers as well as the food. There isn’t a pass in our kitchen or a maître d’ so it’s a bit more of a relaxed approach.”

The menu will include beauties such as barbecued mackerel (yes a million times), sardines wrapped in vine leaves and pulled pork bahn mi to name a few. Chris is excited to cook in an environment where he can be both experimental and interact with customers who come to enjoy his food. It’s an exciting time to come and enjoy delicious food whilst taking in the beautiful views.
