It’s exciting times ahead for Gopal’s Curry Shack, the Indian inspired street food vendor who was recently announced as one of the new inhabitants of Cargo 2, situated in the vibrant and eclectic Wapping Wharf development.
Gopal’s specialise in serving creative vegetarian and vegan Indian-inspired dishes, taking advantage of and using local seasonal West Country produce, to give their offerings a British twist. Favourite menu choices often include Wild Garlic Pakoras, Creamy Coconut & Seasonal Vegetable Curry, Samosa Chaat, Parsnip & Ginger Pakoras and the legendary Onion Bhaji Scotch Egg. Yes you read that right, AN ONION BHAJI SCOTCH FREAKIN’ EGG.
Now, the all-female founders of Gopal’s (Mel and Heather) have launched a crowdfunding initiative to help raise money to build and kit out their new crate. They have raised over 40% of their target so far, totalling £5,000. There is a fantastic range of rewards for pledgers which includes t-shirts, cookery demonstrations and corporate or party catering. Gopal’s also have the support of many local Bristol businesses, such as Hart’s Bakery, Scoff & Relish, The Pickled Brisket and Good Chemistry Brewing, to name a few. There is only 10 days of the campaign left to go and every little helps.
The two ladies behind Gopals, Melanie Taylor and Heather Simmonds, started the street food stall with just £100 each roughly four years ago, and since then they have nurtured and built a thriving business. Melanie commented,
“We are absolutely thrilled to be on the verge of setting up our first permanent (micro) eatery. We started the business nearly four years ago after running a successful supper club together. It has been a labour of love. There are not many women-only street food businesses out there; it’s a tough physical existence moving your whole set up around with you.
We now need the help of our loyal supporters, fans, fellow foodies and local businesses to help spread the word about our crowdfunder campaign and help us achieve our goal of transforming our space at Cargo 2 into a welcoming and vibrant home.”
